Review STIGGENASTY “Captain Amar!” – EP

Most of you will know Stig Pedersen as the bass player in D-A-D. The Danish hard rockers are one of the most well-established bands out there, and Pedersen is an important part of that. He provides the heartbeat of the band with his bass playing. He also entertains audiences with his unique stage outfits, which include various customised bass guitars. Alongside his successful career in rock, Pedersen is launching his first solo release.

The six-track EP, titled “Captain Amar!”, is launched via Mermaid Records. The first song unveiled from the EP was “ROADKILL”, which hit streaming portals in 2025, followed by “(Just Like) Arcadia” in January this year.
While “ROADKILL” is a groovy rock song that evokes the feeling of ease on a road trip on a sunny highway. There is a kind of mirage-like quality to “ROADKILL”.

The second release has a similar vibe, yet is different. “(Just Like) Arcadia” is much darker, with a mood that is more brooding and haunting. Held at a moderate pace, the song has a cinematic feel. The song is given the twist of a superbly integrated guest vocal by Sune Wagner (The Raveonettes), and could well be the soundtrack for a road movie.

Overall, one could say that “Captain Amar” is a highly versatile release. There’s the thunderous “Do You Want Me On My Knees”, which showcases Pedersen’s punk rock roots, as well as a garage rock edge to the tune. “Someday, Somehow” echoes a rebellious heart, and “Take and Gone” brings the EP to a close. The closer is a calm, melancholic piece that showcases the diversity of “Captain Amar!”.

Stig Pedersen made an exciting solo debut as Siggenasty. Drawing inspiration from the music that shaped his artistic journey, Pedersen recorded songs that exude heart and soul. Rock, punk and rockabilly all feature on this EP, and it is Pedersen’s musical vision that brings it all together.
