“Made in Hell” is actually made in Helvetia, as the guys from Hell Boulevard are from Switzerland. Founded in 2014, the band made their debut in 2016 with an album called “Inferno”. Since then, the four-piece band has released two more albums, with “Made in Hell” marking their fourth release.
Six years after revealing “Not Sorry” the band presents ten new songs that connect to their earlier releases. As I mentioned, we are navigating the realms of dark rock, the foundation upon which these ten new tunes are built. Spiced up with dense, symphonic moments and hoarse screams, the band’s music is reminiscent of that of genre colleagues like Lord of the Lost. This connection becomes even more apparent knowing that Chris Harms co-produced the vocals, and considering the glam factor of Hell Boulevard, it’s clear that the band is heading in a similar musical direction.
Hell Boulevard might not redesign the genre, but they offer powerful dark rock, as demonstrated by the dense rocker “Rebels”. I was even reminded of bands like The 69 Eyes here, and it is the pulsating rhythm that captivates.
Electronic elements take a more prominent position in “Of Fallen Idols”, contrasting with the powerful guitars. The same goes for ‘BTCH PLS’, which also has a catchy chorus that shows some hit potential.
‘Why Did It Get So Dark?’ is a heavy-hearted song that alternates between wistful verses and a bursting chorus. Your kajal might be challenged by the little tears this touching moment evokes.
Hell Boulevard also stay true to their sound towards the end of the album, with the stomping “Chasing Ghost” and the emotionally touching “Safeword” providing another moving moment in darkness.
The final chapter, however, is a pounding one. “Antisocial Club” is one of the heaviest songs on the album, with a rebellious punk vibe that stays true to the album’s dark and gloomy theme.
“Made in Hell” is an energetic dark rock album, where the thrilling symbiosis of harsh guitars and electronica is sure to captivate listeners. With well-crafted melodies and a powerful sound, the band knows how to captivate its audience. “Made in Hell” is a rock-solid release, and these ten songs are great fun to listen to.
