Terror is a hardcore band from the US West Coast. Founded in 2002, the band grew to become one of the most influential names in the genre. With frontman Scott Vogel and drummer Nick Jetts, two of the band’s founding members are still at the helm. The quintet has just finished work on their latest studio effort, “Still Suffer” In addition to the singer and drummer, a third founding member was involved in the creation of “Still Suffer” Former guitarist Todd Jones produced Terror’s tenth full-length album.
Thematically, the band sticks to their hardcore roots by addressing typical topics such as injustice, struggles and resilience. “Still Suffer” is 100% Terror hardcore, fusing speed and groove with mighty riffs. In this respect, Terror do not really stretch the boundaries of their sound, but rather fine-tune it. The embedded heaviness and punching energy are the driving forces of “Still Suffer” and are also echoed in the title track.
The grooving bass power resonates through songs like “Fear the Panic”, while a massive drumbeat kicks off the aggressive opener “Erase You from My World”. These songs showcase a band that sticks to its musical trademarks: raging hardcore blended with metal riffs.
The band also invited a few guests to contribute to the vocals. “Beauty in the Losses”, a song with a rather laid-back beginning, features Jay Peta (Mindforce) on vocals. Chuck Ragan also adds a powerful delivery to “Fear the Panic”. Last but not least, Brody King of God’s Hate and Dan Seely of King Nine feature on “Deconstruct It” – a song with an eight-minute running time. This is an unusual length for hardcore, especially compared to the other tunes on the album. ‘Deconstruct It’ actually has a hidden track, or maybe more of an outro. It features voicemail messages with personal stories from the past, accompanied by a jazzy piano soundtrack. It’s a pretty interesting way to end the album.
‘Still Suffer’ is Terror’s tenth studio album, and another loud, thunderous release that cements the band’s status as one of the leading contemporary hardcore acts. This album is loud and brimming with intensity. It is full of energy and the next exciting addition to Terror’s discography.
