Review PRONG “Live and Uncleansed”

Prong has released several live albums, with “Live and Uncleansed” being the latest. This most recent live album was recorded in 2025 during the band’s European tour celebrating the 31st anniversary of their iconic album, “Cleansing.”
Prong performed a 28-song set at their headliner shows, and the live album features 11 of those songs, along with three bonus tracks depending on the format. “Live and Uncleansed” isn’t a live document of one specific show. It includes seven shows, ranging from festival performances, such as at Wacken, to club shows.

During the tour, Prong performed the entire “Cleansing” album, and the live album includes some of these smashing groove metal anthems: “One Outnumbered,” “Home Rule,” and the Prong classic “Snap Your Finger, Snap Your Neck” were played and are included on the live album. “Whose Fist Is This Anyway” is one of the bonus tracks, but there is one song I would have loved to see on this album. Unfortunately, “Cut-Rate” is missing, which I think is a real pity since it is one of the best Prong songs ever.

The live album doesn’t start with a song from “Cleansing. Instead, it’s the pounding “Revenge…Best Served Cold,” which kicks off “Live and Uncleansed.” With “However It May End,” Tommy Victor and his bandmates also added a relatively new song to this live record.

The album’s sound is raw and authentic. At the same time, the live album captures the energy of a Prong show well, and listening to the recordings of various live shows doesn’t diminish the excitement.

Two songs from the “Cleansing” session that didn’t end up on the studio album are noteworthy. One is the thunderous “Corpus Delicti,” a bonus track on “Live and Uncleansed.” “Inheritance” is the other tune, originally released on the “Airhead” soundtrack. In 2025, the song became part of a Prong live set for the first time, and without a doubt, it has to be part of this live album.

“Live and Uncleansed” is an authentic live release, and the only “cleansing” is in the title, not the sound. Fans of vigorous groove metal from New York will appreciate this release, which brings the vibe of the ’90s into today.
