Live report H-BLOCKX & BIRD’S VIEW, Docks, Hamburg – November 4th, 2025

The crossover kings, H-Blockx, have been on the rise for a while now. There has been a lot of activity at the H-Blockx camp recently, and their current tour is just one example of this. After celebrating the anniversary of their debut album last year, the four-piece band from Münster, Germany, are now on their “Fillin’ in the Blank” tour across Germany. Today, the band is playing at Docks in Hamburg, which is a sold-out show with a support act called Bird’s View.

I hadn’t heard of Bird’s View before, but they’re a young band from Frankfurt, Germany. However, they made an impression tonight with their vibrant and loud alternative rock, which is evident from the moment they take the stage at 20:00. Their stage presence and music are extremely powerful, and even the few softer, more emotional moments fit into their 30-minute set, as these calmer parts give this roaring show good flow and balance. The untamed energy of youth is one of Bird’s View’s driving forces, and their music is great fun to listen to. Most of the people in the room agree, as a large group fills the venue while Bird’s View are on stage, and applause expresses appreciation for what this young, talented band delivers. Bird’s View did an excellent job of getting the crowd in the right mood for the headline act, using the momentum to showcase their musical repertoire.

H-Blockx are a well-established name in the German crossover scene. The band entered the album charts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland with their debut album, “Time to Move” and enjoyed success throughout the ’90s and early ’00s. After the release of the “HBLX” album, there was a period of radio silence before the 30th anniversary “Time to Move” tour sparked the old H-Blockx vibe again. This led not only to additional live shows, but also to the band returning to the studio in order to work on a new album. The next record, “Fillin’ in the Gap”, will be released in early 2026, and one of its songs kicks off tonight’s show.

“Straight_Outta_Here” is tonight’s blasting opener and the audience clearly appreciates the new material. It marks the start of a nearly 2-hour show by a band fully committed to the next successful era of H-Blockx. The guys from Münster can count on an impressive repertoire of great songs, and they are one of those bands that make you think: “Oh, true. They have this great song too”.

Classics such as “How Do You Feel?” and “Countdown to Insanity” are played relatively early in the set, and the temperature at Docks rises with each performed song. It’s all about jumping around and putting your hands in the air. The band and the fans from the early days have grown older over three decades, but it feels like everyone is immediately reminded of their youth, with everybody feeling three decades younger.

Two more new songs are presented tonight: “Light’s Out” and “The Corn’s About to Pop”. Not only are they great, they also fit perfectly into the set, reflecting the band’s regained power.

The close connection between band and fans is apparent when the fans loudly sing the chorus of “Here I Go Again”, and the further into the setlist we go, the crazier the fans get. “Little Girl” inspires a choir of fans to join in singing the chorus while holding up their mobile phone torches, while the first circle pit starts with “Time of My Life”. It feels like everyone is having the time of their life right now, and this feeling is intensified with the next adrenaline rush, provided by “Risin’ High”.

H-Blockx are back, and watching them perform makes you feel 30 years younger. The band brings this vibe onto the stage, and it’s what the fans are really enjoying tonight. At the same time, this show is about more than just a retrospective of a bygone era. It is an homage to the earlier days while appreciating the present and embracing the future. H-Blockx are back with a bang, and we can look forward to their new album with great excitement.
