Review INHUMAN CONDITION ‘Mind Trap’

Inhuman Condition was established by two former members of Massacre: Taylor Nordberg and Jeramie Kling. After leaving the death metal flagship in 2020, the duo founded this new death metal powerhouse, recruiting Terry Butler, another death metal veteran, to join them.

The trio made their debut with ‘Rat°God’ in 2021, and despite the challenges of forming a new band during the pandemic, Inhuman Condition managed to grab the attention of metalheads. The next album, ‘Fearsick’, followed a year later, and it took the guys a while to come up with their third effort.

The title of this new album is ‘Mind Trap’, and it features nine death metal blasts. The latest effort is an unexpected mix of old-school death metal songs. These are crafted with a great sense of thunderous headbangers, brutal grooves, blistering leads and solos. These are key elements of Inhuman Condition, which can be heard in songs like the mesmerising ‘Face For Later’.

The trio slowly develops an own musical identity which resonates on their new album. Moreover, the incorporation of diverse tempos renders ‘Mind Trap’ an engaging record. ‘GodShip’, for example, relies mainly on a slower groove, changing gears in the chorus.

‘Mind – Tool – Weapon’ also features breaks and racing speed, alternating with sinister mid-tempo power. ‘Recollection of the Future’ starts with an acoustic intro, followed by spoken words that create an evil spirit which fully unfolds after a minute, when the roaring death metal reaches its full intensity.

‘Mind – Tool – Weapon’ also counts on breaks and racing speed that alternates with sinister midtempo power, and it is ‘Recollection of the Future’ that starts with an acoustic intro before some spoken words create an evil spirit that fully unfolds after a minute, when this roaring death metal reaches its full intensity.

‘Mind Trap’ is an album that celebrates old-school death metal and the Tampa sound. Inhuman Condition is slowly shaping its own musical identity, and this latest record will help to strengthen its position in the death metal genre. The only slight drawback is the running time, as ‘Mind Trap’ clocks in at just 31 minutes. However, ‘Mind Trap’ delivers on expectations, offering solid death metal with straightforward songs.
