Review TEMPLE FANG “Lifted from the Wind”

The first time I came into contact with Temple Fang‘s music was on July 3, 2019, when the quartet opened for the iconic Corrosion Of Conformity at the Patronaat in Haarlem. Even though it was six years ago, I still remember their show for two reasons. One is the ecstatic music the guys played, and the other is the fact that one of their guitarists played while sitting because of a cast on his right leg. The latter shows the musical dedication of Temple Fang, a band that puts the music first.

Six years later, Temple Fang released “Lifted From the Wind,” a full-length album that they consider their debut, after releasing an EP and several live recordings. With their latest release, Temple Fang close a gap and launch an album with five songs. The fact that the album has a running time of 75 minutes tells us that Temple Fang are not going for the short and dirty Rock’n’Roll approach. What the Dutch four-piece delivers are epic songs, with “Once” even exceeding a 20-minute mark.

Temple Fang’s songs feel more like recorded jam sessions, with progressive rock moments reminiscent of bands like Hawkwind and the early Pink Floyd, as well as allowing the listener to dive into a colorful world of psychedelic flashes. The album has the blasting elements of rock music and at the same time great soundscapes that show the musical talent and creativity of a band that crafts music with their heart.

It is this emotional aspect of their music that resonates through each of the five songs. It also has to do with the fact that recording wasn’t an easy process for the band. By the time they were ready for pre-production, real life hit the guys again with some personal and relationship issues. However, with willpower, the band finished the album, which is now available as “Lifted from the Wind”.

Temple Fang is an exciting band. It’s the passion and commitment to music that unites this four-piece band. These songs are full of creativity, unexpected twists and a psychedelic spirit. Certainly, the music requires focus to unfold its greatness and emotional impact.
