Review THE DEAD DAISIES “Light ’em Up”

The Dead Daises are back with a new studio album. The band, which debuted in 2013 with the thunderous self-titled record, has become one of the most influential rock bands of our time, which also has to do with the personal.

The Dead Daisies are the brainchild of David Lowy and Jon Stevens, who initiated the band in 2012 in Sydney, Australia. The fact that the fifth continent is the cradle of blasting rock music is something we all know since AC/DC started to thrill the world with great songs.

After Stevens left the band in 2015, it is guitarist David Lowy who is the driving force. One of the secrets of The Dead Daisies’ fresh and dynamic sound is their constantly changing lineup. Unlike other bands, The Dead Daisies are more of a collective, which makes these adjustments in the group’s constellation a refreshing element. It also adds to the versatility of their music, with each album being a superb hard rock release while still sounding slightly different from the previous record.

The latest effort “Light ’em Up” fits perfectly into the list of the five-piece’s achievements. The latest album is a powerful statement about the power of rock. It is a loud and pounding rock album that shows all its beauty right from the start. The title track opens the album and was also the lead single. It is a red-hot rock song that ignites a sonic firework.

Also great is what you’ll get to hear once you reach “I Wanna be Your Bitch”. The rocking riff and great chorus will have you singing along the first time the song blazes through your speakers. “I’m Gonna Ride” is next and shows some AC/DC influences, followed by a song called “Back to Zero” which is the only weak point. “Even after listening to the song a few times, it doesn’t catch your ear.

After such a short episode the real spirit of rock returns with “Way Back Home” and the rest of the ride is pure joy too. The throbbing bass of Michael Devin is the starting signal for the smashing “Take a Long Ride”. “Light ’em Up” is not such a long ride, though, as it clocks in at 37 minutes. As these are used in a great style, we can conclude that quality wins over quantity.

The final chapter of this great release is called “Take My Soul”, a slower paced and blues-soaked rocker that is a perfect finale to an excellent album.

“Light ’em Up” inhales the essence of rock. This album is loud and powerful, music made with a dirt-under-the-fingernails approach. Not much more to say than let the party begin.
