Review DELIVER THE GALAXY “Bury Your Gods”

Deliver The Galaxy has stood for melodic death metal since 2010. It was the year the band was founded and since then they have released two full length albums, the first of which was “Project Earth” in 2014.

The band has now completed work on their third album, “Bury Your Gods”, which will be released in late August. Like its predecessor, the new album is based on a lyrical concept. The storyline deals with the idea of life beyond the borders of planet Earth; the idea of a cosmic visitation at the time of the Sumerians helping them with knowledge and techniques to build the mighty pyramids. It may not be a common concept for a death metal release, but it is a refreshing approach to this type of music.

“Bury Your Gods” is a story told in 13 chapters, of which “Ancient Alien” is the first. The song begins in a dramatic manner and it is the arrival of Sularis that is addressed. It is the starting point of this cinematic story before a first melodic death metal anthem represents the main musical direction of Deliver The Galaxy.

With “Unsterblich” the album not only contains a song with German title and lyrics. It is also one of the most versatile moments of the album, as the song alternates between furious moments and atmospheric segments.

With “Dead Planet” the album also contains a pounding highlight with cinematic elements as spice that transports despair and inner pain. Calmer and more melancholic is “Shadows”, which transports emotions and at the same time shows the range of Deliver The Galaxy’s sound. “Shadows” doesn’t stick to a calmer approach, as the song has some wild outbursts as well as an infectious melody.

Deliver The Galaxy have produced a well-sounding new album that combines the aggressiveness of death metal with a lyrical concept that goes beyond gore and splatter. It’s a thoughtful storyline that runs through this release, and fans of melodic death metal will find plenty of great moments on “Bury Your Gods”.
