Rock and Metal from Denmark, that makes you think of bands like Pretty Maids, D-A-D-, King Diamond and others. In addition to these well-established bands, the Nordic country also has some fine modern metal to offer. One of the representatives of contemporary rock from Denmark is Siamese.
The band started in 2011 as Siamese Fighting Fish before they decided to make things easier for the fans. Siamese became the new moniker and that was in 2017. Six albums is what the guess added to their discography with the next record waiting in line. “Elements” is the title of the latest album and ten new songs underline the quality level of the band.
The sound of Siamese is a mix of different influences, bridging metal, rock, blues and electronic music.
Already the start of the album is a fulminant one. Vehement riff power, loud screams and melodic clean vocals are the key elements of this song, which serves as a good framework for the album. Strong and at the same time with a good feeling for a melodic component the band starts very solidly into “Elements”. The opener shows the basic approach of the Danish quintet.
To get a more complete idea of the music of Siamese, I can recommend listening to “On Fire”. There are the thundering riffs again, but there are also more dominant electro elements woven into this energetic piece of music, which is also recognizable when listening to “Chemistry”. The five-piece finds the sweet spot in blending these influences, resulting in songs that never get cheesy and always have a robust level of heaviness. The catchy chorus on songs like “Chemistry” is more of a soul retreat and a counterpart to the raging elements. Last but not least there is “This is Not a Song” …. “it is a motherf**king moshpit”. Narrative female vocals guide through this song while the chorus burst with power and energetic shouts. What a way to finish the album.
It’s bands like Architects and Bad Omen that have provided the source of inspiration for Siamese and their version of contemporary rock music. The Copenhagen-based band has enough of its own trademarks though to reflect an identity of its own, and what roars out of the speakers is well-forged music that has enough firepower and versatility to provide a lasting thrill for fans of modern rock and metal music.
