Review HEILUNG “Lifa Iotungard (Live At Red Rocks 2021)”

“Location, location, location” isn’t just important in real estate and baseball. It also adds to the special experience of a live show when the venue, environment, and music all work together in a great fashion. One of those moments happened in October 2021 when Heilung played a show at the Red Rock Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado. Or was it more of a rite than a show?

Heilung have three longplayers under their belt and it is surprising that they are releasing another live album with “Lifa lotungard (Live at Red Rocks 2021)”. It is even more surprising when you look at the setlist/tracklist. Both have a lot of songs in common and one wonders why fans should add this release to their collection.

No doubt, the sound is excellent and the ritual is well captured. But the music is only half of the fascination. The live shows also offer the whole experience, including a strong visual element that is missing on the live album. Keeping all this in mind, it might be a better investment to get a ticket for one of the upcoming shows, as the band will embark on a European tour in September/October this year, before heading to Australia for some shows.

“Lifa lotungard (Live at Red Rocks 2021)” is certainly a well-crafted release that attempts to do the impossible – capture the full experience of a healing live rite. Fans will certainly appreciate the effort, while people who haven’t had much to do with the band should check out a real live show first.
