Review BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION “V”

There’s no doubt about it: June is a great month for Joe Bonamassa fans. Two albums featuring the iconic guitarist and singer will be launched that month, with “V” hitting the shelves first.

Black Country Communion‘s latest release is “V”. Joe Bonamassa, Glenn Hughes, Derek Sherinian and Jason Bonham: this is the sublime 4-piece line-up that releases with “V”; a new diamond in the world of blues-laden rock music. There’s no need to talk about the excellence of musical craftsmanship when it comes to Black Country Communion. Each of the four guys has an impressive history in rock and a lot of experience, which allows the band to unleash their boundless passion for superb rock music.

The latest Black Country Communion album is a 10-song, 51-minute masterpiece and it kicks off with the incredible “Enlighten.” The song, which was revealed as a single prior to the album release, is a thundering fusion of rock and blues in the 4piece’s signature style.

The blues part is more in focus with the following “Stay Free” before “Red Sun” throws a dark riff at you. The slower-paced song is the perfect ending of the first triple of tunes, and it perfectly reflects what listeners can expect from “V”. You might even want to add “Restless” which is the slower and emotion-laden blues ballad, a song that is touching.

The classic rock and blues union is back during “Skyway” and one thing is clear. This tracklist is flawless. Each of the four musicians contributes to the song’s overall success, and the focus is on the song itself, not the individual egos. “V” is the result of combining various strengths to create something even stronger.

“Love and Faith” is full of Led Zeppelin influences, no surprise there with Jason Bonham behind the drum kit.

“Too Far Gone” is an upbeat and straightforward track, while “The Open Road” is the funky rocker that acts as the final chapter of this outstanding release. Black Country Communion did what they are best in – writing great songs and performing them with passion and dedication. It feels like each of the four guys uses the outlet as a project that allows them to look beyond the frame of their usual bands. Freedom fosters creativity, and you’ll find plenty of it while listening to “V”.
