Review VOIDGAZER “Dance of the Undesirables”

Voidgazer is a band formed in late 2015 in St. Louis, Missouri and is the brainchild of Manny Watts. Despite being a relatively young band, Voidgazer has already gone through several line up changes and is now ready to take off.

The band first burst onto the scene with the release of an EP entitled “Years of Exile” in 2016, and after such a start, it took Voidgazer a while to come up with new material. They returned with another EP called ‘Dance of the Undesirables’, which is also the title of their debut album. This release was an independent effort that brought the band to the attention of Reigning Phoenix Music. After a deal was signed, the EP became an extended debut album with two songs being added to the track list.

Voidgazer is a band that fuses several shades of metal to create their own distinct blend. What reaches your ears is progressive, loud and furious. Listening to this album, you can’t help but think of bands like Mastodon, but also more traditional metal is what resonates with the songs on this longplayer. With such an approach the guys never get ahead of themselves and what the songs on the album reflect is fierce, modern sounding metal with layers that add excitement instead of chaotic noise. Still, it took me a while to get into this release, but once it unfolds its power, it is headbanging entertainment.

“Dance of the Undesirables” is a wild album from a young band. Voidgazer is a band with a lot of power and enthusiasm, which allows them to follow their musical road into a promising future.
