Review FREEDOM CALL “Silver Romance”

When a band has been around for 25 years and has released ten longplayers, they obviously have a very solid fan base. Freedom Call from Germany is one such band. Formed in 1998 and releasing their first album “Stairway to Fairyland” a year later, they the path of path of “happy metal” for many years, as they describe their music.

“Silver Romance” is a dentist’s best friend. This is due to the sticky and sugar-sweet melodies on which songs like “In Quest of Love” are built. With “High Above” happy metal even turns into disco metal and we are happy that “The dragon child has finally learned to fly”, as “Big Band Universe” tells us. In case you, due to all the catchiness, forgot who you are listening to, check out “Symphony of Avalon”. The only color that doesn’t exist on “Silver Romance” is black while the rest of the color spectrum is used to paint 13 new songs.

Freedom Call don’t move away from their trademarks and the new album will be a great one for fans of the band. Those who have no use for colorful metal will also stay with their point of view. I have to admit though that I’m a bit impressed by the full commitment of Chris Bay and his bandmates to follow their musical vision and I also have to say that it’s not so easy to deny the impact of these extremely sugar-coated metal songs.
