Attacker have been following their passion for metal for 40 years. Formed in 1984, the band is one of the veterans of heavy metal, and even though they never made it to the top, they made a name for themselves in the metal underground.
With ‘Battle at Helm’s Deep’ and ‘The Second Coming’, the guys released two albums in the glorious 80’s, with the debut album being released on Metal Blade. After that the guys went quiet. A reawakening took place in 2001 and since then Attacker have been more active than ever. Four albums have been released and “The God Particle” is now the seventh in total.
With a playing time of just over 30 minutes, ‘The God Particle’ is not overly long and there are eight songs that made it onto the record. Driven by the drumming of founding member Mike Sabatini, the guys slam their way through eight tracks that are positioned somewhere between traditional metal and US metal. All in all, the band offers solid metal played with a lot of commitment. What you have to get used to are the screeching vocals of frontman Bobby Lucas. On songs like “Knights of Terror” it’s a very specific vocalsperformance and like I said, you have to get used to it. The vocals shine though on songs like ‘River Of Souls’ and the mid-tempo headbanger ‘World in Flames’. The screams are much less and the clear power metal voice makes Attacker’s sound much more pleasant without the band losing any of its power.
‘The God Particle’ is an album that will take metalheads back to the 80s. Hereby Attacker don’t sound old-fashioned at all, but convince with good songwriting that allows the listener to surf through the album with a some pleasure.
