Review BOKASSA ‘All Out of Dreams’

Norwegian rock export rocker Bokassa have been recently on tour, opening for the legendary Therapy?. Part of their 13 songs featuring setlist have been two new tunes that are now unleashed as a part of the newest longplayer.

At the time it was the title track ‘All Out of Dreams’ and the roaring ‘Garden of Heathen’ that created an adrenaline driven vibe at Gruenspan, Hamburg. Both songs are very representative for the newest release with hardcore pioneer Lou Koller (Sick Of It All) adding some vocals to the massive ‘Garden of Heathen’ with great breakdown. And mentioning guest appearances means also to not forget the grooving ‘Bradford Death Squadron’ with Red Fang’s Aaron Beam adding his part to this stoner-driven song.

The shortest track on the album is called ‘Everyone Fails in the End’. The furious but melodic hardcore track needs less than a minute to unleash its energy and is a contrast to the closing ‘Crush (Alle Herectic)’. The latter is a dark and gloomy tune with heavily down-tuned guitars and a rather slow pace.

What makes the album to an entertaining one are all these twists while still sticking to some style-defining trademarks. Let’s take the final two tracks as an example. The mentioned closer follows a song entitled ‘No More Good Days’ which is rather punky and hereby totally different to the gloomy ‘Crush (All Herectics)’. With being really different, both songs fit into the spirit of ‘All Out of Dreams’ which makes the longplayer to an entertaining musical journey.

Bokassa delivers with ‘All Out of Dreams’ a well-crafted new studio album with songs that include a blasting energy, heavy riffs and the right level of catchiness.
