Review SATAN’S FALL ‘Destination Destruction’

Satan’s Fall released their debut album ‘Final Day’ in 2020, on which they freely expressed their passion for traditional heavy metal. Three years later follows with ‘Destination Destruction’ the next album of the Finns and stylistically everything remains the same. Only the label has changed for the guys from the south of Finland. ‘Destination Destruction’ is the first album which is released via Steamhammer/SPV, which certainly increases the possibilities for an expansion of awareness.

With ‘Lead the Way’ it is a real headbanger which kicks off the album. Fast, straightforward and equipped with hard riffs the quintet starts into the album and immediately creates an appetite for more.

It gets more anthemic with ‘Garden of Fire’ before ‘Swines for Slaughter’ is a bit slower, at least at the beginning of the track. Yet slowly the song gains momentum and becomes a melodic metal stomper towards the end.

‘Monster’s Ball’ has a similar feel, but a notch calmer and more atmospheric. Starting with the sound of the acoustic guitar, the tune evolves into a balladic rocker that segues into the blistering ‘Afterglow’.
Satan’s Fall manage to give the album a consistently high quality standard. While not everything the guys present here is a brand new approach to metal, songs like the fast-paced ‘Kill the Machine’ are great fun to listen to.

Unusual, however, are the two CD bonus tracks which is especially valid for ‘Es Wird Viel Passieren’. It is the title track of a German TV soap from the 90s and 2000s. Since the show was obviously on in Finland as well and as the guys had a certain weakness for it, they couldn’t help but give the title track a metallic sparkle. The result doesn’t even sound bad. Besides that, there is another unusual cover version with ‘Go Go Power Rangers’, which is even better done than ‘Es Wird Viel Passieren’. Melodic metal of the late 80s shimmers through more than once and it’s surprising what metallic heaviness the guys have given this song.

‘Destination Destruction’ can keep up with the well done debut all the way through and if you like traditional heavy metal with proper riff power and good hooks, you should definitely listen to ‘Destination Destruction’.
