Review DECAPITATED CHRIST ‘Glorious Tyrannizing of Human Rats’

Barcelona, known for soccer and sunny beaches, also has a quite vital metal scene. Even death metal has a home in the sunny city on the Mediterranean coast. One of the bands having their homebase in Barcelona is Decapitated Christ.

Some of you will be familiar with the name, while others will shrug their shoulders. This is not surprising, as the band has been on a long hibernation. Between 2016 and 2020, the band ceased to exist. Before that, however, the guys had released four blistering death metal albums.

It’s been nine years since Decapitated Christ released ‘Arcane Impurity Ceremonies’, their last studio album to date. However, after the second era was ushered in 2020, fans of the band are lucky enough to put another album of the guys on their record-shelf these days.

‘Glorious Tyrannizing of Human Rats’ is the rather lengthy title of the album which is loaded with new death metal crushers. The beginning is made with ‘Grief and Sorrow’, an intro which leads the listener to ‘Haunting Human Rats’. The track can be understood as a kind of title track, in which the band goes immediately into full swing. Frenzied and fast as an arrow the song hits you in the face. In addition, the guitars howl and it’s Markus von Schwarzfurz’s growls that get into the marrow of your bones.

Even if the five-piece remains true to its musical foundations, there are still moments like the slowly beginning ‘Inferi Ardentis Monarcha’, which do good to the flow of the record. They do not just ignorantly go for tempo here. Rather, ‘Glorious Tyrannizing of Human Rats’ is characterized by a certain musical richness, which is created, among other things, by clever tempo shifts. Thus, the throbbing ‘Assault on the Ravaged Wasteland’ reminds in parts of bands like Bolt Thrower, which should be understood as a compliment.

The right mix between deadly grooves and fast paced passages is represented by ‘Massive Demonioc Warfare’, which should definitely be listened to.
