Review REBELLION ‘X – Live in Iberia’

German metal band Rebellion release these days with ‘X – Live in Iberia’ a live album, the first one in their 22 years long career. As the title suggest the album was recorded in Spain. The Teutonic metal force played a show at Paberese Club in Valencia on May 15^th, 2022.

The setlist contained 15 songs, reflecting the two decades of the band in a good fashion. The debut is represented by the lightning ‘Letters of Blood’ while tunes like ‘Voices of War’ and ‘Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité’ take fans into the here and now. The latter two tracks are from the 2021 release ‘We are the People’ and represent the presence of the band.

Also to mention is the sound of this live release. ‘X – Live in Iberia’ finds the sweet-spot of a powerful sound and the always requested live authenticity. There isn’t much that was adjusted afterwards, which gives the release a lively and authentic live feeling. It is more a bootleg approach with a down-to-earth sound and that fans liked the show gets obvious by the chants of “We want more” before the band kicks off with ‘Ala Germanica’ a next thumping power metal anthem.

Rebellion always show passion and dedication for their favorite style of music and the live album is a good summery of their musical offer, which also allows newcomers to catch up. This live album doesn’t aim for perfection, it focusses more on fun and joy.
