Review PIERCE THE VEIL ‘The Jaws of Life’

Pierce The Veil belong more to the rock genre and don’t really offer metal. Nevertheless, the band is also interesting for one or the other reader of Markus’ Heavy Music Blog. Rolling Stone Magazine described the band’s sound as “hyperactive, progressive post-hardcore” and they are certainly not wrong.

The trio of Vic Fuentes, Tony Perry and Jaime Preciado released their debut album ‘A Flair do the Dramatic’ in 2007 and have now completed their latest work, ‘The Jaws of Life’.

In total, there are twelve gritty songs on their new record and when you listen to the furious ‘Pass the Nirvana’, it quickly becomes evident where the band is coming from. The song features a rather calm verse with some grunge references. In the chorus, however, the song explodes and unloads all its energy. Hard hitting guitars and the wild screams of frontman Fuentes give the track an impressive heaviness that counteracts the fragility of the verse.

The band goes a bit softer and darker on ‘Emergency Contact’, followed by the pleasing ‘Flawless Execution’; a song with hit potential.

Pierce The Veil present with ‘The Jaws of Life’ a sophisticated album. Alternative rock with well done melody lines gives the record a pleasant component. In addition, it is the violent outbursts that make the one or other song stand out from the rest and make the album much more intense. Since the production has also provided the album with a very fine sound, nothing stands in the way of an unlimited listening pleasure.
