We have known that hard rock made in Australia is a quality feature at least since AC/DC. In addition, bands like Rose Tattoo and Airbourne have delighted the world with excellent rock music. In addition, The Poor have been drawing attention to themselves since 1986 with well-made hard rock.
Started as The Poor Boys, the guys later changed their name to The Poor and have quite some success to their credit. Take their debut album ‘Who Cares’ which reached number three in the Australian charts.
What stood in The Poor’s way, however, was a certain inconsistency. Between 2000 and 2008, the band was on a hiatus. Once the band got back on track in 2008, two albums were released, ‘Round 1’ and ‘Round 2’. After that it became quiet about the band again, at least as far as longplayers are concerned.
With ‘High Price Deed’ the eagerly awaited fourth album finally hits the record stores. The new record contains 12 songs and delivers 45 minutes of good hard rock. It’s the thumping songs like ‘Lover’ and ‘Take the World’ that could be the soundtrack for a good party. Also the groove of ‘Goin Down’ is infectious and the same goes for ‘Lies’, with its pumping beat.
However, there are also more average offerings with songs like ‘I Know It’s Wrong’ and luckily another bluesy highlight comes next with ‘Love Shot’.
‘High Price Deed’ doesn’t reinvent rock’n’roll and can’t reach the genre greats mentioned at the beginning. Still, you’ll find enough moments on this record that guarantee you a good time.
