Review TURMION KÄLITÖT ‘Omen X’

Sometimes chicken; sometimes feathers – that goes for everything in life. If you get a new record on the table, then you are certainly curious about the direction in which things are heading. Well, in the case of Turmion Kälitöt it is rather ‘feathers’.

The Finns from Kuopio are already active since 2013 and have also a considerable number of albums at the start, which have so far passed me without a note. However, now comes ‘Omen X’ and there is no way around dealing with the work of the band.

Turmion Kälitöt are an industrial metal band whose bandmembers go by illustrious psyeudonyms like MC Raaka Pee and Bobby Undertaker. With stomping beats, synthesizer sounds and catchy humpa-humpa vocals the guys try to attract attention and whether Turmion Kälitöt can increase the fanbase with ‘Omen X’ remains to be seen.

Songs like ‘Puoli Valtakuntaa’ simply have too little substance in order to establish themselves in the listener’s mind. The band uses off-the-shelf songs, which do not attract anyone to listen to them. Every Finnish sauna is hotter than what comes out of the boxes in this case and although you find yourself slightly tapping your toes, you quickly realize that this symptom will disappear after a one-time listening. Whether ‘Omen X’ is a good omen for Turmion Kälitöt remains to be seen. It would surprise me though.
