Valley Of The Sun, hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, have three longplayers under their belt. The stoner rock band launched with ‘Old Gods’ their so far latest album back in 2019 and add with ‘The Chariot’ a next effort to their discography.
For 12 years Valley Of The Sun steer their ship into a good direction. Not being the most innovative band and at the same time having their heart beating for stoner rock makes listening to ‘The Chariot’ to a positive thing.
The gently roaring guitar is a key element when it comes to the sound of Valles Of The Sun. ‘Sweet Sand’, the opener, and the following ‘Images’ are clear statements right at the beginning of the album. Groove also doesn’t fall short, thinking about the mid-tempo number ‘Running Out of Love’. A thumping rhythm and an explosive chorus reflect the coolness of well-done stoner rock.
A pace change is what is next. ‘Sunblind’ is bad-ass rocker and the band obviously shift gears. The essence of rock’n’roll is more the driver than the slow and sunburned sound of the desert. It is a desert song that comes to live after sunset.
Listening to ‘The Chariot’ is best with a cool beer at hand and the sunset in front of you. Valley Of The Sun’s high volume rock is the perfect soundtrack for such a scenery and the upcoming European summer will surely offer some days when such a scenario becomes reality.
