CD review THE NEPTUNE POWER FEDERATION ‘Can You Dig – Europe 2020’ – EP

You can’t say that The Neptune Power Federation makes their life easy. Instead of a tour through Europe with a number of stops in Germany (of course COVID-19 cancelled), the band releases an EP in mid-July, which is quite something.

The Neptune Power Federation take on the challenge of covering songs from two bands that are icons of Rock/Metal. And not only that. Singers and guitarists of both bands belong to the best the scene has ever brought to life. We’re talking about Queen and Rainbow.

The Australians take two songs from each of the two bands, an endeavor that can easily backfire. Well, not if The Neptune Power Federation takes up the challenge.

‘Kill the King’ starts, followed by ‘Long Lve Rock’n’Roll’. It quickly becomes obvious, that we are dealing with great versions of the timeless Rock anthems. The Australians don’t move too far away from the original, leaving the songs with the oldschool soul, while the recording itself sounds even more powerful.

‘Sons and Daughters’ and ‘Tie Your Mother Down’ show a similar approach. The Neptune Power Federation manage to inject new life into the songs without being perceived as a cover band. They really find the sweet-spot.

Even if we miss The Neptune Power Federation playing live on stage at the moment, this EP provides a little replacement. It at least helps to bridge the waiting time until we can witness again the highly energetic live peformance. Cool stuff from Down Under.
