CD review MINATOX69 ‘Collapse’

Minatox69 are celebrating their 10th birthday this year and it seems that the five guys are releasing a new album not only but also to celebrate this milestone.

Minatox69 are dedicated to Thrash Metal. Although it’s not as melodic as the label info sheet suggests, the band scores with a felicitous and powerful production.

The record sounds very modern and I felt reminded of Pantera more than once too, without the five Italians at any point reaching the class of the genre veterans. Sometimes, like with the other half-minute ‘Wht?!#’ the guys push themselves even over the top and also ‘Guilty’ sounds a bit out of tune. Minatox69 are more than once ahead of themselves. What is meant to be diverse seems a bit fragmented at second glance. And the fact that with songs like ‘Next Enemy’ and ‘Cupidity’ also metalcore and death metal growls shimmer through does not make the whole story more homogeneous.

All in all it can be said that ‘Collapse’ is an album you can listen to but you don’t have to own. Minatox69 certainly doesn’t ‘collapse’ with this release but if the guys can win over new fans in today’s release-mania remains uncertain also.
