CD review ASENBLUT ‘Die Wilde Jagd’

That Asenblut and Amon Amarth have few things in common cannot be denied. Of course the Swedes were first on the market with their melodic death metal and the Asenbut guys have certainly some of the Amon Amarth records being a part of the collection. But if you look at the cover of ‘Berserker’ you could get the impression that Johan Hegg and Co. also got inspired by the artwork of Asenblut’s third album.

So far, so good. But we don’t want to look for commonalities between the two bands here, but instead take a look at Asenblut’s latest album ‘Die Wilde Jagd’.

Metal with German lyrics is always a bit of a challenge because it sounds weird rather quickly. Asenblut though manage to combine melodic death metal with German lyrics without things getting embarrassing. Crisp riffs with the power of a viking battleaxe are a challenge for every speaker, manifested by songs like ‘Seite an Seite’ and raging battle hymn ‘Penumbra’.

The German death metal vikings have once again made their ships ready to embark on another musical raid with the new album. Fans of the band and/or well done melodic death metal will like this album.
