Sodom belongs to the Big 4 when it comes to German Thrash Metal and after returning to a quartet the firepower of “Knarrenheinz” becomes even stronger.
Before starting the work process for the next longplayer Tom Angelripper and band mates unleash a new EP, which should help to bridge the waiting time. Three new songs, a re-recorded version of the Sodom classic ‘Agent Ornage’ and a live version of ‘Bombenhagel’ is what the tracklist offers, all headbangers delight.
‘Genesis 19’ is the starting point of this EP, a song that will be on the next longplayer too. Lyrically the songs about the thesis and hypothesis connected to the downfall of Sodom and Gomorrah. The song itself is an aggressive Thrash Metal hymn without any mercy. This headbanger certainly raises appetite for the next longplayer.
The next two songs are new ones too, but solely for this EP. Addressing the evil and dread of World War I the lyrics come with a personal touch based on letters of Tom Angelripper’s grandfather. Both songs are ruthless Thrash Metal assaults, ‘Down on Your Knees’ a bit faster and ‘Out of the Frontline Trench’ more groove oriented with a strong bass.
There’s not much more to tell about ‘Agent Orange’ than great re-recording. ‘Bombenhagel’, performed at Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, ends this EP. A special moment is embedded in the second part of the song, including the German National Anthem and the ‘Steigerlied’. Home game for Sodom and for sure a win, not only when it comes to the closer.
‘Out of the Frontline Trench’ showcases Sodom in great shape and form. These four guys are hungry and full of passion for Heavy Metal. Sodom, stronger than ever.
