CD review LEGENDRY ‘The Wizard and the Tower Keep’

(8/10) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is the home of a band that beings Epic Metal to surface. The band, consisting of bandleader Vidarr, Kicker and Evil St.Clair, releases with ‚The Wizard and Tower Keep‘ their third strike, a concept album based on a novel Vidarr wrote and published. The songs on the new longplayer were written in chronological order and follow closely novel, lyrically as well as musically.

Next to the concept the record can create excitement with its sound. Epic Metal is what‘s reflected in each of the seven songs. ‚The Wizard and Tower Keep‘ is built on music that‘s sound-wise connected to bands like Cirith Ungol and Manilla Road. Long and epic songs like ‚Earthwarrior‘ are well-crafted tracks and a delight for fans of more traditional Heavy Metal. To amplify the oldschool vibe ‚The Wizard and Tower Keep‘ comes with a warm and organic sound. The album has some edges and isn‘t over-produced without compromising on production.

Although the masters of Epic Metal created a blueprint for the Pittsburgh three-piece band I also has the think about the early Blind Guardian (and not only because the first track’s entitled ‘The Bard’s Tale’) and Manowar.

‘The Wizard and the Tower Keep’ became a good longplayer that certainly has enough potential to stick out compared to the flood of new release every month.
