CD review ECLIPSE ‘Paradigm’

(9/10) Swedish Melodic Metal masters Eclipse reveal their new album ‘Paradigm’ mid October and it’s a blast. Eleven excellently executed Melodic Metal anthems are a treat for everyones ears and the right soundtrack for swiping away the grayish autumn mood. As a prolongation of summer days ‘Paradigm’ shines bright.

Erik Mårtensson, Eclipse founding member, has a great sense for big melodies. The great thing with this album is, that, with all the melodies and catchiness, things never get cheesy or cheap. The first single ‘Viva La Victoria’ proves the mentioned. Being a highly commercial track the hymn still contains enough guitar power to not drown in sugarcoated sweetness.

The opener has the task to set the tone of voice for the album and ‘Viva La Victoria’ does it in a perfect fashion. It doesn’t matter which song you choose, you will not be disappointed.

Highlights are for sure are tracks like the half-acoustic ‘United’. Awesome. ‘Delirious’ has the potential to make you positively dizzy and it’s the pounding rhythm of ’38 or 44′ that catches you right away. There is no weak spot on the setlist. ‘Masquerade’ is a melodic anthem with a Pretty Maids meets Axel Rudi Pell vibe and the melacholic ‘Take Me Home’ is rounding off an album that belongs to the melodic highlights of 2019.

Eclipse blossoms out over the last years and became a strong player in the fields of Melodic Metal. The newest album will help them to strengthen their position, a record that is entertaining and just great to listen to.
