CD review HÄMATOM ‘Maskenball’

(8/10) German Hämatom started in 2004 and were influenced by the sound of the Neue Deutsche Härte. If you now do the math you will recognize that the band celebrates their 15th anniversary this year, a moment to do something special and start the party.

Highlight will be the Maskenball Festival on August 31st and a day prior to the jubilee show the band comes up with a longplayer entitled ‘Maskenball’ too.

Since March 2019 the band unveiled every 15th of each month a new songs from the album and now it’s time to have a look on the entire release. The maskmen from Bavaria recorded in total 16 songs. Many of them are cover versions, sometimes from English originals like Queen’s ‘I Want it All’ while others are German hits like Trio’s ‘Da da da’ Neue Deutsche Welle smasher.

‘Boom Boom Boom’ originally by K.I.Z. got a Hämatom outfit and the same goes for Marius Müller Westernhagen’s ‘Freiheit’, which sounds at least as good as the original. In general we can conclude that Nord, West Süd and Ost gave each of the songs an interesting twist, which makes Rag’n’Bone Man’s ‘Human’ to an interesting Metal anthem.

Equipped with a powerful sound ‘Maskenball’ is an entertaining album and the perfect soundtrack for Hämatom’s anniversary party. Cheers
