CD review VULTURE ‘Ghastly Waves & Battered Graves’

(8/10) What is it that German highways and Vulture have in common? Indeed, no speed limits.

Vulture is still a rather new powerhouse in Metal. The band was founded in 2015 and released a first demo in 2016. A full-length debut followed one year later and after having inked a deal with Metal Blade it’s the sophomore record ‘Ghastly Waves & Battered Graves’ that puts merciless Metal into the focus.

Vulture’s album is known for Speed Metal but took a wider approach for the new longplayer. There are speedsters like the furious opener ‘Fed to Sharks’, reminding of bands like Agent Steel not less because of Steeler’s high pitch screams. Also the racing ‘Murderous Militia’ has the foot on the speed pedal and it’s the first generation of Ruhrpott Metal that comes to your mind when listening to these kind of tracks.

In its totality though the quintet put more effort into songwriting, leading the songs like the title track with roaring riffs and catchy melodies, spread out over six minutes. What each of the nine tunes has in common though are merciless guitar attacks in varied tempo and screams that give you a cold shiver.

Vulture is about oldschool Heavy Metal that sounds authentic and real. These guys like what they do and what they do sounds great. Driven by a metallic spirit and a lot of passion Vulture lifts their sound to a next level, supported by a retro sound that fits to their music in perfection. ‘Ghastly Waves & Battered Graves’ – that’s no frills, just thrills.
