CD review NIGHTQUEEN ‘Seduction’

(7/10) Nightqueen from Genk, Belgium is a new member on El Puerto Records’ roster. ‘Seduction’ is decisive third longplayer of the sextet from the Benelux and features twelve songs that are rooted on Power Metal.

Nightqueen is the brainchild of guitarist Rex Zeco who founded the band in the early 2000s. What started as a hobby evolved to a band that premiered in 2012 with ‘For Queen and Metal’.

As mentioned, Nightqueen works in the fields of Symphonic Power Metal and what they deliver on ‘Seduction’ is pleasing songs. Tunes like ‘Wall of Sorrow’, with the catchy melody, are solid but also not really new. There’s a lot of competition in this genre and Nightqueen is another player seeking for a gain. Foreseen with a professionally done sound ‘Seduction’ spreads some charm, but if this is enough for being seduced is something each of you needs to decide individually.

What’s missing is a stronger own identity with ‘Fuel the Fire’, as an example, being a mixture of Meat Loaf and Bonnie Tyler. There is just this little extra missing that lifts the album from a good one to being a thrill. ‘Seduction’ isn’t really seducing. It’s more of an average friendship and that’s also worth a lot.
