Review THE LIMIT “Another Drop”

Do doom metal roots and a punk rock attitude really go together? That was the question many people asked in 2021 when The Limit released their new album. At the time, Billy Liebling (Pentagram), Sonny Vincent (Testors), Jimmy Recca (The Stooges), Hugo Conim (Dawnrider), and João Simmons (Dawnrider) delivered Caveman Logic. Now the band returns with Another Drop, their latest release.

With Liebling, Vincent, and Conim still forming the essential core of The Limit, the lineup has been expanded with Alex Schwers (Slime), Dee Dammers, and Alex Farrar. The album also features several guest appearances, something that became clear with the lead single “Part Two, Screw You.” None other than Steve Stevens contributes to this driving punk rock track, which immediately sets the tone. “Part Two, Screw You” is the perfect entry point into an album that comes out of the gate with power and plenty of energy.

This becomes obvious right from the opening track, “Another Drop of Blood.” As the second single, the song showcases the rebellious spirit that drives the band’s two main protagonists. Dirty rock and punk influences come together in an authentic and honest track that represents the overall character of the album very well.

Billy Liebling’s unmistakable voice takes the lead on the dark and grooving “Don’t Say Try.” It feels like a musical fever dream that you would rather not wake up from. Slower but filled with intensity, “Just a Calling Card” rolls out of the speakers with a heavy atmosphere, while the spoken-word style vocals in the verses add another interesting element to the song.

“Stalemate,” on the other hand, is one of the faster tracks on the album, deeply rooted in punk rock. “Cause of Mystery” brings a darker vibe, while “Panzer” moves forward with an unstoppable, driving rhythm.

With “Unchained,” The Limit bring this 15-track album to a close, proving that rebellious, punk-infused rock is not defined by age. Another Drop is an authentic and honest record that stands apart from many of today’s highly polished productions. It captures the raw spirit of punk rock music while staying true to the band’s own identity.
