Review ERECTION “Plug It In”

Hailing from the heart of Bavaria, Erection prove that southeastern Germany has far more to offer musically than Blasmusik and Oktoberfest traditions. Beating at the core of this band is the rebellious spirit of punk rock, and it comes fully alive on “Plug It In”.

Erection consists of Julia, Schtiefn, and Tino, with Andi, Tobi, and Vom Ritchie (of Die Toten Hosen) sharing drum duties. Vom Ritchie, in particular, provides the pulse for the album, with the explosive energy spreading title track kicking off “Plug It In”.

Erection play punk rock with dedication, passion, and a clear sense of purpose. Their songs combine raw power with memorable hooks, creating an energetic and highly engaging sound. With lyrics delivered in both German and English, the band reaches beyond national borders while staying true to their roots. No matter the language, Erection’s songwriting goes deeper than surface-level rebellion.

“Kasse” tackles financial insecurity and existential anxiety, while “Ich Will Mehr” captures the pressure of everyday life and the desire to break free from its constraints. The band’s punk attitude shines brightly on “I Hate To,” another defiant anthem driven by a powerful chorus.

Elsewhere, the rock influences become more prominent on “You Don’t Know,” while “So War Sie” introduces a touch of melancholy. A title like “Colin Robinson” already hints at the band’s sense of good lyrics, and “Gorilla Salad” delivers yet another infectious chorus that is impossible to ignore.

With “Plug It In”, Erection have created a thrilling punk rock record. Fueled by a ferocious sound, the album hits the sweet spot between furious energy and melodic appeal, occasionally even leaning toward pop sensibilities.
