Örebro, Sweden, is the home of renowned two-piece stoner rock outfit Truckfighters, formed in 2001. The band has returned with a compelling new studio album, “Masterflow”, marking their first full-length release in a decade. After what they describe as a ‘long, long hiatus’, founding members Ozo and Dango returned to the studio to record the nine new tracks that now make up their sixth album.
“Masterflow” delivers a dense and immersive blend of stoner rock, fuzz rock and distinct psychedelic influences. These elements are immediately evident in the opening track, “Old Big Eye”, which is driven by downtuned riffs and fever-dream-like melodies. The song unfolds like a sonic heatwave, setting the tone for an album that feels vast and hypnotic.
“Carver” stands out as a contrasting yet cohesive piece within the album. Beginning with a calmer, guitar-driven approach, it gradually reveals a rich, psychedelic atmosphere. Its hypnotic character highlights the band’s ability to transcend sheer sonic force, showcasing a broader musical range while preserving their distinctive sound. This sense of versatility enhances the album’s overall flow.
A similar dynamic defines “Truce”, which opens on a more introspective note before shifting into fuzz-laden stoner rock territory. The interplay between subdued, almost meditative sections and powerful, riff-heavy passages is a recurring theme throughout “Masterflow”. The title track, in particular, leans towards the more restrained and atmospheric end of the spectrum.
As the album progresses, its hypnotic quality becomes increasingly apparent. Tracks such as the pulsating “The Gordon” and the mesmerising “Bad Horse” draw listeners deeper into the album’s captivating soundscape, making it hard to resist.
With “Masterflow”, Truckfighters have made a strong and confident comeback. Not only does the album reconnect with the spirit of their earlier work, it also reflects a more refined and mature approach to songwriting. After years of relative silence, the band has returned with a captivating collection of groove-driven, fuzz-soaked compositions that combine intensity with atmosphere.
