Iron Savior revisits the ’80s, but not when it comes to rock and metal. Piet Sielck and his bandmates have interpreted some of the most successful pop songs from a very colourful era. Prior to the album launch, some of the single releases showed that the endeavour is actually quite successful.
The idea for the album dates back to 2002, when the band included a cover of Seal’s “Crazy” as a bonus track on the “Condition Red” album. This version received considerable attention, with fans asking for more.
Two decades later, “Awesome Anthems of the Galaxy” turns that dream into reality. Iron Savior recorded 17 songs, including covers of hits such as “Fame” and “Catch Me I’m Falling”. The album also features stunning versions of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s “Relax” and even a softer song like “Against All Odds” shines brightly with its Iron Savior twist.
The band succeeds in covering all these songs while giving them a typical Iron Savior touch. At the same time, Piet Sielck and the band don’t deviate too far from the originals — a balancing act that they perform very well.
“Awesome Anthems of the Galaxy” is entertaining and takes us on a trip down memory lane. I’d say that more than a few metalheads listened to these songs in the ’80s, although they might not have admitted it. “Awesome Anthems of the Galaxy” is fun from start to finish — an album well worth checking out.
