Review MIDNATT “Skräckfylld Förtjusning”

Midnatt hail from Sweden, though the exact date of the band’s formation hasn’t been widely documented. What we do know is that their first EP arrived in 2022—and now, in a milestone moment for the Värmland-based quartet, they unveil their debut full-length album, “Skräckfylld Förtjusning” (“Terrifying Enchantment”).

As the title anticipated, the album is performed entirely in Swedish, which already gives it a distinctive character. Ultimately, though, it’s the music that matters and here Midnatt deliver a full-on metal assault.

The opener, “Satán,” sets the tone perfectly. What better way to kick things off than with a fierce metal ode to the lord of hellfire? From the very first notes, it becomes clear that the band’s musical intensity is tightly aligned with its lyrical themes. Midnatt’s debut album unleashes thunderous, untamed heavy metal rooted in the spirit of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, shining through tracks like “Ljuva Midnatt.”

This is a furious denim-and-leather record that picks up speed with the blistering “Kom an,” before the crushing “D.Ö.D.E.N.” takes over. The latter stands out as a dark and oppressive track, paving the way for the galloping “Sfinxen,” another powerful tribute to classic heavy metal.

“Vigilanten” follows as yet another explosive anthem, reinforcing the album’s no-frills, no-gimmicks approach. Every track embodies raw, unfiltered heavy metal, driven by an underground spirit and a deep passion for the genre’s roots.

“Skräckfylld Förtjusning” is an album that will resonate strongly with fans who appreciate heavy metal with grit and an unpolished edge. Its old-school sound enhances the experience, wrapping each track in a gritty atmosphere of chains and steel. Midnatt’s debut effort is a blistering, brimstone-infused release that captures both the enduring power of heavy metal and the relentless energy that defines it.
