Review CHEZ KANE “Reckless”

“Reckless” is the third album from British singer Chez Kane, who collaborated with Danny Rexon for the next time. The frontman of the Swedish rock band Crazy Lixx wrote and produced the album, which is completely inspired by the ’80s, starting with the artwork, which is full of clichés.

With Kane on the front cover, the album gets some initial attention, as all the stereotypes from the ’80s are woven in. The same goes for the ‘Miami Vice’-style font. One could hardly add more to an album cover than what ended up on “Reckless”, but actually, the record doesn’t need all these gimmicks.

“Reckless” is a solid rock album that delivers joy through music, which is the most important factor. The title track kicks things off. It’s a moderate rock song with a great melody and an addictive quality. It sets the tone perfectly for the rest of the album, as it reflects what to expect from “Reckless”.

The rock roots are even more evident in “Personal Rock’n’Roll”, while “Night of Passion”, with its hooks, reflects Chez Kane’s infectious flair. The latter challenges the boundaries of pop while remaining a rock song.

The sweetness of the keyboards is an important component of “Tongue of Love”, a throbbing mid-tempo rock song. Looking at the song titles, it’s clear that rebellious or innovative topics are not really the focus here. Love, passion and affection drive the lyrical concept.

“Bad Girl” is one of the harder songs, especially considering the thunderous start. “Bodyrock” is the album closer, and not only because of the song title, I was reminded of Lee Aaron in the late ’80s when she released “Bodyrock”. Robin Beck is another singer I was reminded of, and mentioning these two melodic rock greats gives you an idea of what to expect.

From start to finish, “Reckless” is an album that revives melodic rock from the ’80s. The artwork and music are perfectly in sync, and you can expect 41 minutes of light-hearted music with great melodies and catchy hooks. It’s a vibrant release that entertains and provides a good time
