Kentucky-based Black Stone Cherry return with their new EP “Celebrate,” a release that captures the full breadth of the band’s musical spectrum. The EP opens with the driving title track “Celebrate,” where heavier guitar riffs are paired with expertly crafted hooks. Anchored by an infectious and anthemic chorus, the song quickly establishes itself as a powerful sing-along moment.
“Neon Eyes” follows, balancing restrained verses with an energetic, uplifting chorus. This dynamic contrast gives “Neon Eyes” a special feel and brings you to the groove-heavy “Caught Up in the Up Down,” a rhythm-driven track that blends alternative rock with a distinct Southern flair. While immediately engaging, the song reveals its finer details gradually, rewarding repeat listens.
“I’m Fine” introduces a darker tone, with noticeable grunge influences shaping the verses. Despite its brooding atmosphere, the track retains an accessible, melodic chorus that invites audience participation without compromising the song’s intensity. One of the most personal moments on the EP is “Deep,” a soulful and emotionally charged track that goes beyond the boundaries of a standard ballad. Subtle twists in the arrangement elevate the song, allowing it to remain melodic while avoiding predictability.
“What You’re Made Of” delivers classic Black Stone Cherry energy, highlighted by clever breaks and a blistering guitar solo that propels the EP toward its conclusion. The closing track, “Don’t You (Forget About Me),” is a cover of the iconic Simple Minds classic. The band stays largely faithful to the original while injecting their signature heaviness. The track also features a guest appearance by Tyler Connolly of Theory of a Deadman, resulting in a fitting homage to the arena rock sound of the 1980s.
“Celebrate” is unmistakably a Black Stone Cherry release – blending rock and blues influences with a strong Southern rock foundation. It is a vibrant, energetic EP that showcases the band’s musical range and delivers an engaging listening experience, particularly well-suited for the spring season as darker days give way to brighter colors.
