Review COURSE OF FATE “Behind the Eclipse”

The thematic theme of Course of Fate‘s latest studio effort is reflected in the title of their third album, called “Beyond the Eclipse”. This time, however, the band did not create a concept album. Nevertheless, a common lyrical approach runs through each of the songs. From start to finish, the album explores the interplay between darkness and light.

Course of Fate had a phenomenal start with their debut album, “Mindweaver”. This debut concept album showcased the first steps of this Norwegian metal force.

“Behind the Eclipse” is the band’s third studio album. It represents their next successful step and a valuable addition to the progressive metal genre.

“Memories” is the intro to an album showcasing great craftsmanship and powerful sounds. This calm and eerie introduction leads to the title track. Clocking in at 10 minutes, the song is a great way to kick off the album. Powerful riffs, intricate structures and Pink Floyd-esque soundscapes resonate throughout “Behind the Eclipse”.
“Sky is Falling” is a darker moment on the Course Of Fate album. A great melody and some furious guitar riffs create a special atmosphere and showcase the band’s musical style. Course Of Fate connects different facets to create a stellar whole.

“So It Goes” has a few moments that remind me partly of Queensrÿche, while the powerful “Acolyte” shows influences from bands like Dream Theater. Mentioning all these acts highlights the musical inspirations that Course Of Fate incorporate into their music, while also adding a significant amount of their own identity to the mix.
A gloomy, almost dystopian vibe runs through “Hiding from the Light”, while “Don’t Close Your Eyes” reveals Course of Fate’s more soulful side. This calm ballad is a touching moment on an otherwise rousing album, which ends with the versatile and well-crafted “Neverwhere”.

“Behind the Eclipse” is a musically rich and captivating album. It showcases a band with a remarkable musical toolkit and an admirable sense of songwriting. “Behind the Eclipse” is a joyful journey, with its superb melodies and layered music.
