Review STABBING “Eon of Obscenity”

Stabbing, a Texas-based band, is rather new. Founded in 2020, the band includes founding members Marvin Ruiz and Bridget Lynch. The rhythm section features Matt Day and Aron Hetsko, who joined the band in recent years and “Eon of Obscenity” is the first album to feature their contributions.

“Eon of Obscenity” is the second album from the Texas metal powerhouse, who debuted in 2022 with “Extirpated Mortal Process.” Their first album brought the band to the attention of Century Media Records, who signed the four-piece, and “Eon of Obscenity” is the first result of this collaboration.

Stabbing plays brutal death metal with extreme growls and massive riffs. The four-piece band offers eleven pulverizing metal tracks that are aggressive yet have razor-sharp precision. Lynch’s growls are especially a main asset to this album. Her blood-curdling barks and hoarse pig squeals make the grunts even more intense. With freight-train energy, Stabbing runs through the album’s songs, and it is the morbid groove, not high speed, that defines this release. There are some blistering breaks that disrupt the steamroller intensity; however, the slower parts are the most haunting moments of this malevolent release.

Technically advanced, Stabbing takes the next step in their young career. The four-piece band establishes itself further in the death metal genre with this release. This is a sinister, pulsating, extreme metal album. Precision and raw power fuse into a grim blend, and Suffocation’s Ricky Myers’s guest appearance on “Nauseating Composition” speaks volumes about the band’s current status.

Stabbing’s sophomore album is an assault on your eardrums. It is an intense, dark, and dystopian soundtrack for the apocalypse.
