“Panorama” is the title of the upcoming album from the Swedish prog rock band Hällas. The Jönköping-based quintet, founded in 2011, has released three albums to date. “Panorama” is the band’s fourth studio effort, continuing their “adventure rock” endeavor.
With roots in 1970s progressive rock and heavy metal influences, Hällas has established itself as a band with great craftsmanship and endless creativity. Combined with conceptual content, Panorama is a holistic experience for fans of superb rock music.
Lyrically, the album’s concept explores humanity’s ability to understand a viewpoint different from their own. Set in a fictional world far away, Hällas addresses a crucial issue of the present day.
For many bands, starting with a 22-minute composition is unusual. Not for Hällas, though. “Above the Continuum” is a spectacular opening to a jaw-dropping album. Galactic keyboards, great melodies, and well-embedded versatility make this a stunning way to kick off an album. With its twists, changes in tempo, and approach, “Above the Continuum” reflects everything Hällas stands for. This song echoes the band’s heart and soul. It is the counterpart to AI and all the artificial content generated these days.
“Face of an Angel” reflects Hällas’ signature sound while maintaining its own unique character. A light-hearted vibe defines “Face of an Angel.” It is an upbeat, pop-laden song rooted in the ’70s that captivates listeners right away. From the beginning, the song draws listeners in and brings to mind “Star Riders.”
“The Emissary” is rocking and spot-on. Its pounding rhythm and great melody line make this tune irresistible. Reflecting on the first three songs of the album shows what makes Hällas special.
Each song is unique yet connected by a musical compass that points toward the ’70s. Although Hällas draws inspiration from this decade, the band is not merely reproducing the spirit of a bygone era. The quintet transports the spirit of that era to the present, which is also evident in the piano-based ballad “Bestiaus.” Due to its bold approach, the latter is an essential moment on an album that ends with “At the Summit.” The six-minute finale is a vibrant tune that showcases a band steering the ship in the right direction.
With “Panorama,” Hällas adds another musical delight to their discography. This album embodies elegant progressive rock, delivered by masters of their craft. These soul-touching and mind-inspiring songs are a remarkable addition to their portfolio.
