Review CASKET “In The Long Run We Are All Dead”

The German death metal band Casket hails from Reutlingen, and its history dates back to 1990. The band belongs to the pioneers of German death metal and premiered with an album called “Under the Surface” after launching four demos.

After a decade without a release, Casket returned in 2008 with “Upright Decay.” Now, “In the Long Run We Are All Dead” provides death metal fans with eleven brutal tunes.

Casket is a three-piece band with Schorsch, Susi, and Marinko forming the lineup. These three musicians kick off their latest release with a massive blast called “The Will to Comply.” There is no longer intro or anything similar to kick off “In the Long Run We Are All Dead.” The trio pushes listeners directly into a riff hellfire and Schorsch’s barking vocals. The band doesn’t only build their music on pure speed. There are smart breaks and moments when the tempo slows to doom-like parts, which are real headbanging moments of the album.

While the opener showcases Casket’s musical range, “Highest Thrones” relies more on tempo, especially at the beginning of the song. In this case, too, there is a massive wall of riffs that gives you the shivers.

“In the Long Run We Are All Dead” is an album that includes two interludes and doesn’t give you a moment to take a breath. Songs like “Hammer, Knife, Spade” are merciless death metal tunes with a hammering rhythm section and razor-sharp riffs.

“In the Long Run We Are All Dead” is a malevolent and sinister death metal release. It is raw and feels like a punch to the chest. This album embodies the true spirit of death metal.
