Review BULLET “Kickstarter”

More than a couple of years ago, the Swedish metal band Bullet released their latest studio album. In 2018, the Växjö-based band turned “Dust into Gold,” and there was basically radio silence afterwards.

Although Växjö isn’t part of a Swedish metropolis, it boasts a vibrant musical scene. For example, the city is the home of Björn Englen, who worked with Yngwie Malmsteen and others. The foundation of the Småland town is being shaken by Bullet’s music. After eight years since the release of “Dust in Gold,” the five-piece band’s new project, “Kickstarter,” has finally been unveiled.

They don’t waste any time kicking off the album with a bang. The title track provides the initial adrenaline rush. A pounding beat, a heavy riff, and Dag Hell Hofer’s husky vocals make “Kickstarter” a perfect opener and a statement that Bullet is back with a loud bang. Accept and Judas Priest remain bands that have impacted Bullet’s sound, spiced up with a rock ‘n’ roll spirit reminiscent of bands like AC/DC.

While referencing these veteran bands, Bullet manages to infuse their music with a unique twist, mainly due to the unbridled and infectious energy that each song spreads. The hard-hitting “Avenger,” the energetic “Full Throttle,” and the heavy, pounding “Keep Rolling” are great examples of the pure power of heavy metal. The same goes for the roaring “Strike at Night” and the high-octane finale “Night Falls Down.”

Bullet is back with a burst of energy. “Kickstarter” is a fierce, power-packed metal release fueled by dedication and passion for heavy metal. It took Bullet eight years to release their next album, and it was worth the wait. Even in their 25th year, the five-piece band delivers music driven by a strong, beating metal heart.
