Review PALEFACE SWISS “The Wilted” (EP)

Swiss metalcore group Paleface Swiss is one of the bands that is on an amazing surge. Founded in 2017, the Zurich-based quartet premiered in 2020 with an album called “Chapter 3: The Last Selection.”

The band’s third release, the 2025 album Cursed, was a push for increased awareness. After touring Europe, North America, and Australia, the quartet unveiled a new EP. Titled “The Wilted,” this new release is the next step in musical intensity from the Swiss beatdown hardcore specialists. Like the previous album, “The Wilted” delves into the abyss of existence, a painful exploration of the depths of the human soul. Despair, breakdowns and life’s struggles are the main themes of the lyrics, resulting in songs like the brutal “Let Me Sleep.” Frontman Mary Zellweger addresses insomnia and its consequences for daily life and mental health.

Musically, the EP takes a broader approach, starting with a desperate intro. “Withering Flower,” with its massive beat, takes over. It’s an aggressive, merciless metalcore blast that hits you right in the face. In contrast, “Everything Is Fine” is a melodic, moderately paced song that ends the EP. The songs are connected by a melancholic vibe, which also defines the finale of “The Wilted.”

With “The Wilted,” Paleface Swiss adds another musical extreme to their list of achievements. Despair, melancholy, and rage fuel songs that are anything but happy. It offers a musical glimpse into the darkness of the human soul. The flowers that blossomed on “Cursed” have dried, and all signs of life have disappeared. This echoes in the music, which is a catalyst for emotional turbulence and devastation.
