Review BORN FROM PAIN “Siege Mentality” – EP

Dutch hardcore veterans Born From Pain are back with a new EP called “Siege Mentality”. Founded in 1997, the band established themselves as a leading force in European hardcore. Drawing inspiration from bands like Agnostic Front, as well as incorporating a stronger metal influence, Born From Pain made their debut in 2002 and the latest EP is the next massively pounding release from this five-piece powerhouse.

Six years after launching “True Love” this new release shows that the band hasn’t lost any of its impact. As with previous releases, “Siege Mentality” isn’t about sophisticated soundscapes. These songs are a massive punch in the face, starting with the instrumental “Defiance”.

“Defiance” is a vibrant and sinister opening to the release, followed by the aggressive title track. In less than two minutes, Born From Pain push the pedal hard. Mighty riffs, a pulsating rhythm and hoarse shouts characterise the song, and these are also the foundation of “My War” The latter is slower paced, but has a massive groove, while “Night Vision” marks the next sonic highlight of the album.

With “Above the Law” the Dutch hardcore veterans shift gears, leading you to “Confirmation Bias”, which is another raging moment on the EP. The combination of metal and hardcore is excellent, with “The Last Descent” being the final part of this release. At three minutes long, it is the epic finale. It is a mid-paced stomper with a mighty groove and furious heaviness.

Born From Pain haven’t lost any of their power, and “Siege Mentality” is a fierce hardcore release featuring all the band’s trademarks in seven songs. It’s a massive burst of energy that reflects a raging mind. Heel goed.
