“Ensomme Jul” (Lonely Christmas) shines a light on the darker sides of the holiday season — loneliness, longing, and broken family relations. Many people have no one to celebrate with and spend the biggest holidays alone, in a time when happiness and togetherness are almost expected of everyone.
This song is for all of them — and remember, you are not alone. There are many who feel the same way. Merry Christmas.
Vocalist and songwriter Kristen Vangsbakken about the song:
“The song is about the biggest holiday of the year – a time filled with both expectations and disappointments. For many, Christmas is anything but joyful. Loneliness affects more people than we like to admit, and men often find themselves in that situation. I’ve met many wonderful people who have no one to celebrate the holidays with – and it’s especially painful when children are involved. The inspiration for the song came after a Christmas Eve when I went out alone and met others who were also spending a ‘lonely Christmas’ at a bar. That night became the foundation for a song I think many can relate to – regardless of age, gender, or background. I’m very proud of this song. It’s an honest and thoughtful counterpoint to the glossy image of Christmas we often hear in holiday music. I hope it can bring comfort to those who feel alone during the holidays, and remind us all that no one is truly alone – there are many others out there who feel the same.”
