Review OF MICE AND MEN “Another Miracle”

Two years after launching “Tether”, Of Mice And Men have delivered their latest studio effort, “Another Miracle”, which is the band’s first record to be released via Century Media. The first song the band launched was the title track. A massive metalcore smasher, built on a throbbing beat and huge riffs, as well as Aaron Pauley’s hoarse shouts. With a few melodic moments in the chorus and clean vocal sections, the song embodies what Of Mice and Men stand for.

This is different with the second single release. “Wake Up” is a song that shows a band willing to push boundaries. The combination of modern metal and shoegaze moments from the ’90s makes “Wake Up” a standout track on the album. With an anthemic chorus and clean vocals throughout, the song will certainly allow Of Mice & Men to increase their fanbase.

“Wake Up” is placed in the middle of the album, which adds positive momentum to the flow of “Another Miracle”. The starting point, though, is “A Waltz” which, after a short cinematic intro, kicks off this metalcore blast with steamroller power.

“Troubled Water” contains some samples, which, when combined with the massive riffing, create a sinister vibe and add to the density of “Another Miracle”. It is the interplay between brutal metalcore moments and soulful arrangements, as in “Safe and Sound”, that defines “Another Miracle”. “Flowers” follows a similar principle. It’s a song with a stronger modern rock influence, while “Hourglass” is the most aggressive track on the album. In a sense, “Somewhere in Between” combines both poles of the musical approach. Melodic choruses and fierce moments are embedded in the song, which is why the title can be translated into Of Mice And Men’s musical signature.

This musical formula also defines “Swallow” before “Infinite”, the final chapter of the twelve-song album.

Of Mice And Men navigate their way through intense metalcore moments and melodic segments with a modern metal twist. They refine this musical approach on “Another Miracle” to create a stunning musical adventure that also evokes the feeling of being ‘somewhere in between’.
