French guitarist and singer Laura Cox has released her new studio album, “Trouble Coming” Having premiered with “Burning Bright” in 2019, Cox established herself as a great rock musician. “Trouble Coming” will consolidate this reputation, as the album features eleven excellently crafted rock songs.
The talented guitarist and singer picks up where she left off with “Head Above Water”. The first chapter is “No Need to Try Harder”, a blues-infused rock song. This energetic song marks the beginning of the album, showcasing a balance of powerful and introspective moments.
Next up is the rocking “A Way Home”, which leads us to the title track. “Trouble Coming” is certainly a highlight of the album, addressing everyday threats that sometimes lurk beneath the surface. It is a blues-driven song with a darker vibe, but it still has a positive element thanks to the well-crafted melody.

“What Do You Know?” is a calmer, more melancholic moment. It wraps your soul in a dark blanket, while the melody provides access to this soulful tune. A grooving bass kicks off “Dancing Around the Truth”. It’s the hypnotic rhythm that immediately catches your attention, despite the very relevant lyrics. This pulsating tune showcases the album’s versatility, as showcased by Cox on the tracklist.
“Out of the Blue” adds to this versatility as the album’s ballad, followed by the throbbing “The Broken”, one of the hardest songs on “Trouble Coming”. The beat gets heavier still with “Rise Together” while the rebellious heart drives “Do I Have Your Attention?”. The answer is yes, and the same goes for the final track, “Strangers Someday”.
Laura Cox has delivered a fantastic new album showcasing her talent for creating well-crafted, genre-bending rock songs with a blues influence. Having found her own trademark sound, she adds a great deal of variety to each song, providing a wonderful flow. “Trouble Coming” is a fusion of melancholy and a rebellious spirit, which resonates throughout the eleven tracks on the album.
