Review BIOHAZARD “Divided We Fall”

The return of Biohazard — featuring Billy Graziadei, Bobby Hambel, Danny Schuler and Evan Seinfeld — was big news. The New York City hardcore legends embarked on a co-headlining tour through Europe with Life of Agony, during which the band announced a new album.

“Divided We Fall” is the title and with “Forsaken” a first song having been presented already in early spring this year in a live setup.

“Forsaken” is also the lead single, and a few months ago, the song indicated that we could expect a blistering hardcore album from the legendary quartet. The album opens with a track called “F**k the System”, which was also released prior to the album. It is a merciless hardcore anthem that kicks off with a Slayer-esque riff before quickly turning into a grooving hardcore track.

“Eyes on Six” begins with an eerie intro, after which the song fuses metal and hardcore excellently. The raging “Death on Me” features a brutal groove and maintains a moderate pace, while Hambel’s bass introduces “The Fight to be Free”. This song could not be more timely in these strange times, offering a musical blast of energy with a revolutionary heartbeat.

Biohazard’s new album showcases their versatility, and the anthemic “War Inside Me”, with its shouts in the chorus, is one example of this. The relentless “Tear Down the Walls” is another powerful hardcore smasher, perfect for beer-soaked slam pits. The closer, “Warriors”, is another hardcore anthem on the album. This song has a big chorus that will undoubtedly be loudly sung along to during live shows.

Biohazard’s live performances were already thrilling, and the new album adds another piece to the puzzle of the great return of this iconic hardcore band. The four-piece from NYC can easily connect with the great moments of the ’90s, and although Biohazard haven’t released an album in 13 years, “Divided We Fall” represents a triumphant comeback of one of the pioneering bands of NYC hardcore.
